Syria: Three IS fighters captured during US raid

US forces have captured three members of the Islamic State (IS) in a raid in eastern Syria, US military command in the Middle East (Centcom) said Sunday.

Among the prisoners are a logistician and a man acting as an intermediary for ISIS, he said in a statement. According to the same source, the third was described as an “accomplice” of the jihadist group. According to Centcom, a civilian was slightly injured as a result of the attack from the ground and helicopter.

Since the defeat of ISIS in Syria in 2019, an international coalition led by Washington has regularly carried out operations against suspected members of the group. Hundreds of US soldiers stationed in northeast Syria as part of an anti-Jihadist coalition continue to fight for the Kurdish-dominated Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and pursue suspected IS members.

In 2022, two other leaders of the group were killed, one in February by US special forces in the northwest, and the other in October by ex-rebels from the province of Deraa (south) supported by the government system.
