Biden affirms that the United States and Europe are completely united to help Ukraine

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, affirmed this Wednesday that his country and Europe “are completely united” to help Ukraine to defend against the invasion of Russia.

Biden He made the remarks in a speech to officially announce that the US will send 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, a move the president explained was recommended to him by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin because it “will enhance kyiv’s ability” to defend its territory and achieve its strategic goals.

“Abrams tanks are the most efficient in the world, they are extremely complex to operate and maintain, so we are also going to provide Ukraine with the necessary parts and equipment to maintain these tanks on the battlefield,” the president pointed out.

Biden He pointed out that the US will begin “as soon as possible” the training of Ukrainian soldiers in the management and maintenance of these combat tanks, which, according to high-ranking officials of his government, will take place in a third country that they did not disclose.

The president recalled that this Wednesday he had a telephone conversation with the German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, and his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, as well as with the prime ministers of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, and Italy, Giorgia Meloni, to “maintain coordination and full support for Ukraine.”

Biden said Russia hopes that the international allies of Ukraine end up dividing but he assured that they will remain united in the defense of Ukrainian territory.

He thanked Scholz for the decision to send Leopard tanks and his “leadership and commitment” to the collective efforts to support Ukraine: “Germany has really stepped forward, the chancellor has been a strong voice for the unity of a close friend”he opined.

He also thanked the rest of the allies and partners of Ukraine for their military contributions, such as to the United Kingdom for donating Challenger tanks, to France for sending AMX-10 RC armored vehicles, to Italy for sending artillery and to Latvia for supplying Stinger missiles, among others.

“Together, with our allies and partners, we have fielded more than 3,000 armored vehicles, 8,000 artillery systems, 2 million artillery munitions and more than 50 advanced multi-launch rocket systems”listed Bidenwho stressed that Ukraine has also been provided with anti-aircraft batteries.

At the end of her speech, a journalist asked Biden why he had chosen to announce the shipment of Abrams now and if Germany had forced him to change his mind, since for months the US government had opposed sending these main battle tanks to Ukraine.

Biden He smiled, walked back to the podium and said he had made the decision now because he wanted to make sure that the US and its allies are “all together” in their support for Ukraine.
