Russia will achieve its goals in Ukraine “step by step”, Putin guarantees

“A year ago, in order to protect the people in our historic lands, to ensure the security of our country, to eliminate the threat posed by the neo-Nazi regime that emerged in Ukraine after the 2014 coup, the decision was made to carry out a special military operation”. he noted in his state of the nation address to both houses of the Russian Parliament.

“And step by step, carefully and consistently, we will solve the tasks we face,” he stressed, three days after the first anniversary of the war in Ukraine that he ordered to start on February 24, 2022.

As of 2014, he maintained, the Donbas “fought, defended the right to live on their own land, speak their native language, fought and did not give up in the conditions of the blockade and constant shelling, the undisguised hatred of the Kiev regime, and believed and waited for Russia to come to your rescue.”

The Kremlin chief indicated that in the meantime, Russia made “everything possible, really everything possible to solve this problem by peaceful means” and negotiated “patiently a peaceful way out of this very difficult conflict.”

“But a completely different scenario was being prepared behind our backs. The promises of the Western rulers, their guarantees about the desire for peace in Donbas turned out to be, as we now see, a falsehood, a cruel lie.”said.

Putin considered that the West “He simply played for time, engaged in trickery and turned a blind eye to political assassinations, Kiev regime crackdowns, mockery of believers, and increasingly encouraged Ukrainian neo-Nazis to carry out terrorist actions in the Donbas”.

“And I want to emphasize that even before the start of the special military operation, kyiv was negotiating with the West on the supply of air defense systems, combat aircraft and other heavy equipment to Ukraine”he alleged, while accusing Ukraine once again of having tried to “acquire nuclear weapons.”

He also accused the US and NATO of “rapidly deploying their military bases and secret biological laboratories near the borders” of Russia, of “dominating the theater of future military operations with maneuvers”, and of preparing an “enslaved Ukraine for a great war”.

“And today they admit it publicly, without hesitation. They seem to be proud, reveling in their betrayal, calling both the Minsk (peace) Accords and the Normandy format a diplomatic performance, a bluff.”denounced.

Putin argued that the West played for it “with marked cards”.

“I want to repeat this: it was they (the West) who unleashed the war. And we have used force and we are using it to stop it.”he claimed.

The head of state assured that Russia will be forced to remove the threat from its borders if Ukraine receives more long-range weapons from the West.

“One circumstance should be clear to everyone: the more long-range Western systems reach Ukraine, the more we will be forced to move the threat away from our borders. This is natural.” stressed.

The Russian president stressed that he is speaking to the Russians on Tuesday at “a difficult moment, at a historic moment for our country, at a moment of cardinal and irreversible changes throughout the world.”

It is, he said, “the most important historical events that determine the future of our country and our people, when each of us has a great responsibility.”

Putin considered that “The vast majority of citizens have taken a principled position regarding a special military operation, have understood the meaning of the actions we are carrying out, and have adopted our actions to protect Donbas.”

“This support reveals true patriotism, which is a sentiment historically inherent to our people”he said, and thanked all the people of Russia for their courage and determination.
