This is the story about the crime of a young LGBTI man in an apartment in Bogotá

On December 12, in the Las Nieves neighborhood, in the town of Santa Fe, in the center of Bogotá, Colombia, the murder of Felipe Garzón Barreto, a 22-year-old who belonged to the LGBTI community. His death, according to Legal Medicine, was due to strangulation or mechanical suffocation.

Garzón, as the Prosecutor’s Office was able to establish, was assassinated in his apartment. His body was found naked, with his hands and feet tied, and his head wrapped in a flag of the LGBTI community.

After her death, the investigative body collected videos from security cameras and other evidence that allowed the identification of one of the alleged perpetrators of the crime: José Ángel Becerra Camacho, who would have subjected the victim in the company of another man.

Thanks to these tests, Becerra was captured in the Calamar neighborhood, in the city of Villavicencio, Meta, and charged with the crimes of aggravated homicide and qualified and aggravated robbery. Although he did not accept the charges, a judge ordered him to be held in prison.

During the concentrated hearings, the Prosecutor’s Office indicated that Becerra Camacho would have acted by default. Apparently, he selected the victim because of her sexual orientation, because he believed that “it would be easy to bend her and exert excessive violence on her”.

How did the murder happen?

According to the narration of the prosecutor in the case, the victim was in his apartment on December 12 and around 6 in the afternoon he left the building and met two men on the street, one of whom would be captured today.

The two subjects would have arrived at the victim’s residence in a vehicle, greeted each other and entered the building, where they boarded the elevator and arrived at Felipe Garzón’s apartment. They were there for an hour and a half.

What, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, was going to be a sexual encounter, ended with the victim gagged, naked, tied to the feet and neck with a sheet, and murdered. In addition to murdering him, the perpetrators stole Felipe Garzón’s cell phone, clothes, and keys.
