“More than once we have declared that we are open to serious proposals from the West and Ukraine for the political-diplomatic settlement of the crisis, however the language of ultimatums is intolerable for us,” said the spokesperson for Russian diplomacy, María Zajárova, in a comment published on the Foreign Affairs website.

He stressed that in order to achieve a stable peace it is necessary to achieve “the cessation of shipments of arms and mercenaries to Ukraine, the end of military actions and Ukraine returning to the status of a neutral country, outside the blocs.”

In addition, the diplomat insisted on the “international recognition of the new territorial realities”referring to the 2014 annexation of Crimea and four other Ukrainian regions during the Russian military campaign in Ukraine.

He added that Ukraine must be demilitarized and denazified, objectives raised by Russian President Vladimir Putin when he launched his military campaign in that country on February 24 last year.

Zajárova stressed that all threats emanating from the territory of Ukraine must also be eliminated, which must endorse its status as a non-nuclear country and guarantee the rights of the Russian-speaking population and ethnic minorities.

“Inalienable part (of possible settlement) must be the lifting of all illegal sanctions and lawsuits against Russia filed in international judicial instances”he added.

This Friday, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against Putin, as “suspected responsible” for the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children and their transfer from occupied areas in Ukraine to Russia, which is a war crime according to the treaty of this court, the Rome Statute.

The arrest warrant against the head of the Kremlin was described as “legally void” by Russia, since the country is not a party to the Rome Statute.
