AMLO describes the United States report on human rights as “slander”

The president of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obradordescribed this Wednesday as “slander” a Washington Human Rights report that points out the practices of arbitrary detentions, forced disappearances, violence against the press and government corruption in the North American country.

“They use slander in the little department of the State Department. They can answer me whatever they want but they have no proof, they are slanderers, liars,” the president said during his daily press conference.

Lopez Obrador He assured that “in Mexico there are no massacres” and that in the country, the State “has ceased to be the main violator of human rights.”

“All they do is show off, make a fool of themselves, if it weren’t such an important matter it would cause laughter,” he added.

The president said his administration would continue to have good relations with Washington but would not allow Mexico or the government to be offended.

“How come we torture? Let’s see, the tests, ”she said.

On Tuesday, the president had already described the report as “politicking.”

In his annual report on Human rights Released on Monday, the State Department indicates that there are credible reports in Mexico of arbitrary homicides by the Police and the Army, of forced disappearances and arbitrary detentions.

It also points out that there are restrictions on freedom of expression, violence against journalists and acts of corruption in the government along with high rates of impunity.

López Obrador has confronted different US political actors in recent weeks following the kidnapping of four Americans on the Matamoros border at the beginning of March and the problem of fentanyl trafficking to the United States.

The president described as “wimps” Republican lawmakers who proposed that the United States send troops to combat drug cartels.

Later, he maintained that Mexico is safer than the United States and accused Washington’s alerts for Americans to avoid traveling or exercise extreme precautions in 30 of the 32 Mexican states of “paranoia”.

In its annual report, the State Department also warned of continuous setbacks in human rights in other countries such as Iran, China, Afghanistan and the governments of Nicaragua and Cuba.
