Sánchez meets progressive leaders from around the world in New York

The head of the Spanish Government and president of the Socialist International, Pedro Sanchezhas summoned progressive leaders from around the world to a meeting next September in NY to vindicate the policies of this political family.

Sánchez advanced the celebration of this meeting in his speech at the Forum of Progressive Governments that, organized by the Socialist InternationalWas held in Santo Domingo at the end of the Ibero-American summit

Among the leaders who participated in this forum were the presidents of Argentina, Alberto Fernandez; Chili, gabriel boric; Colombia, Gustavo Petro; Portugal, Antonio Costa; and Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader; and the High Representative for Foreign Policy of the EU, Josep Borrell.

Also the general secretary of the Socialist International, Benedicta Lasiand the Secretary of International Policy and Development Cooperation of the PSOE, Hana Jalloul.

In his speech, the President of the Spanish Government urged taking advantage of the coincidence of progressive leaders in Latin America to promote a shared agenda of social justice and the fight against inequalities.

In his opinion, joining forces makes it easier to contribute to the global political debate with the aim of achieving more prosperous, sustainable, just and democratic societies and the strengthening of democracy and the stability of institutions.

Sánchez set the climate emergency and the fight against poverty and inequality as priorities, and it was in this context that he proposed calling another forum of progressive leaders on the sidelines of the summit to be held in September in NY to analyze the evolution of the sustainable development objectives pursued by the UN.

A summit in turn convened on the occasion of the opening of the new period of sessions of the United Nations Assembly.

In that progressive forum, Sánchez said that the leaders of this political family from around the world will be able to vindicate the progress agenda represented by those UN objectives with an eye toward 2030.

And to achieve these objectives, he encouraged the mobilization of all the talent of progressive principles and highlighted the crucial role of Ibero-America in that goal.

Sánchez also referred to the importance of another meeting of the Socialist International, which will be held soon in Niger the members of the Council of this political organization.

The head of the Spanish Government will also chair this Sunday in the Dominican capital the meeting of the Committee of the Socialist International for Latin America and the Caribbean.

The meeting’s agenda provides for a joint analysis of issues such as threats to democracy and the political stability of Latin Americathe promotion of public policies that favor the inclusion of young people and women, and the fight against climate change.
