This jurisdiction, guarantor of the conformity of the law with the Constitution of 1958, “it will issue its decisions on Friday 14 of April at the end of the day”, after an oral hearing scheduled for 4 Aprilreads a statement.

The announcement comes a day after hundreds of thousands of people protested in the streets, for the tenth time since January, the withdrawal of the reformwhich pushes the retirement age from 62 to 64 by 2030.

The protests radicalized on March 16, when the president decided to adopt his project by decree, fearing he would lose the vote in the Parliament and after activating a series of legal mechanisms that limited the debates.

He Constitutional Council should rule on the validity of the reform, after the appeals filedand a request from the left-wing opposition to call a referendum to limit the legal retirement age to 62 years.

France is in the throes of a deep social and political crisis due to this reformwhich the government considers crucial to avoid a future deficit in the pension fund, but which two out of three French people reject, according to polls.

The government and unions claim to be looking for a solution to the conflict, but they hold out in their positions: the union organizations ask for the paralysis or withdrawal of the reformbut the government responds that it is already adopted.

After rejecting a union request to find a “mediation”, the prime minister, Elisabeth Borneinvited the unions to a meeting next week, although the government has already warned that they will not discuss the retirement age.

“I’ll talk about it. And if they tell me: ‘You can’t talk about it’, (…) then we’ll leave”the union leader warned this Wednesday CFDT, Laurent Berger. The unions called for a new day of protests on the 6th of April.
