The information added that 5 of those events were magnitude 2.0 and highlighted the record of an earthquake at 11:22 local time (16:22 GMT), located 4.3 km southwest of the crater.
The report details that the seismic activity It remains located in the southwestern sector of the volcano and at a distance of between 2.0 and 5.0 kilometers from the crater.
Likewise, the Colombian SGC said that there were confirmed ash emissions and degassing due to the movement of fluids within the volcano, which in 1985 caused the largest natural disaster in Colombia.
“The maximum height of the gas and/or ash column observed yesterday (Sunday) was 1,200 meters measured from the top of the volcano”says the statement.
With an altitude of 5,364 meters, the Nevado del Ruiz volcano caused a catastrophe on November 13, 1985 when an eruption and melting of its glaciers caused an avalanche that devastated the population of Gunsmith (Tolima), where more than 23,000 of its 25,000 inhabitants died.
