This is the horrifying moment when a car with two children in it crashed into an abyss of boiling hot water in Russia.

Footage shows the white SUV being flooded on Wednesday as the ground opens up beneath them in St. Petersburg.

The hole in the ground was created after a pipe broke and the ground plunged in, filling the area with boiling water.

The driver and his 10-year-old son suffered burns, while the other child was reportedly unharmed.

Two members of the emergency services who rushed to the aid of the family were also hospitalized with burns.

One of them suffered burns over more than 30% of his body, according to local media.

The Emergency Situations Ministry said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “Both rescuers were hospitalized with burns to their lower extremities.”
