Viral challenge on TikTok: 8-year-old girl runs away from home at midnight in Bogotá

This Monday, April 17, a minor under the age of 8 put her family, neighbors and the authorities on alert after disappearing at night in the town of Puente Aranda, in Bogotá, Colombia.

After spending hours of anguish, the family and authorities were able to find the whereabouts of the girlwho was trying to meet a viral challenge of TikTok —according to the aforementioned outlet— which consists of ‘disappear’ from home for 48 hours without notifying relatives, in order to obtain the greatest amount of attention when being sought.

Challenge participants would even earn more points if their relatives published their face, names and related messages on social networks.

The challenge has triggered the alert of the authorities since 2022, when in several Latin American countries cases of disappearance of minors began to be presented that, after being investigated, it was concluded that they participated in the ’48 hours challenge’ hours).

He challenge has generated concern among the authorities given that children and adolescents they can be put at risk when trying to comply, such as being victims of an accident or attempted kidnapping.
