Volodymyr Zelensky urges NATO to invite Ukraine to join the alliance

Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyurged this Thursday the NATO to invite his country to join the alliance and asked for help to “overcome the reluctance” of the allies to give Kiev crucial weapons to fight Russia.

“It is time” for NATO to invite Ukraine, Zelensky told the secretary general of the transatlantic military alliance, Jens Stoltenbergvisiting kyiv.

Zelensky also called for help to “overcome the reluctance” of “partners with the delivery” of weapons of “long range, modern aviation, artillery and armored vehicles”.

For his part, Stoltenberg stated that the priority it is the Ukrainian military victory over Russia and that the question of Ukraine’s accession to the Alliance would be discussed at the July summit in Lithuania.

For years, Ukraine has claimed NATO membership, and even more so since the Russian invasion began in February 2022, arguing that it is its only real security guarantee against Russia.
