Snapchat: My AI chatbot, powered by ChatGPT, is now available

Snapchat has launched its ‘chatbot’ My AI globally for all users, powered by ChatGPT’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, which also integrates new functions such as the possibility of creating a digital avatar and interacting through video responses short.

In this sense, the company responsible for Snapchat announced the launch of its ‘chatbot’ My AI last February, as a functionality that only Snapchat+ subscribers had access to and that was capable of carrying out actions such as “recommend gift ideas, plan a hiking trip, or suggest dinner recipes.”

Now, the social network has announced through a statement that My AI is already available to all Snapchat users around the world and for free. In addition, it has advanced that it incorporates new functions to achieve greater customization and new ways of interacting.

Among these new functions, the possibility of create a Bitmoji digital avatar in order to personalize the My AI ‘chatbot’. Until now, the app allowed you to assign a name to the ‘chatbot’ and select a conversation background. However, with this new feature users will be able to customize it with “thousands of physical features, colors, and clothing styles.”

Another novelty is the ability of My AI to interact with the user through responses in short videos. That is to say, the chatbot will be able to read the messages that the user sends in video format and, in addition, respond in the same way with generative AI.

In other words, the chatbot will be able to generate Snaps by responding to the user in video format as if they were chatting in person. Likewise, the platform points out that this is one of the “characteristic” functions of the app, since every second an average of around 55,000 Snaps are created worldwide.

Following this line, another new form of chatbot interaction is the possibility of introducing it in any conversation with friends within the ‘app’. To do this, users only have to mention it in their group chat by typing the at symbol (‘@’) and the name of the ‘chatbot’, after which, the members of the chat can ask questions.

In addition to all this, Snap has highlighted the recommendations that My AI is capable of giving. It even now has a new feature that allows you to give suggestions of places by placing them on the Snap Map and including activities and experiences in Augmented Reality.

SECURITY MEASURES

In order to maintain security with users on the social network, the platform has worked on improving the ‘chatbot’ programming so that you “comply with the community guidelines” and avoid responses that could be “inappropriate or harmful”.

In fact, Snap already implemented a filter in My AI earlier this month to record the ages of users of the social network and offer appropriate responses based on it. In addition, the company also indicated that it would add technology to assess the severity of “potentially harmful” content.

In this framework, Snap has reported that the chatbot will also be added to its Centro Familiar parental control platform. With this, the platform intends that those responsible for minor users, whether they are parents or guardians, can know how often My AI is being used and can have control over it.
