Several dozen female students were injured on Monday when they jumped from a roof to escape a fire that devastated a girls’ high school in the southeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), reported local sources.

Around 09:00 local time a fire declared himself in high school MwangaCatholic school of kolweziin the province of lualaba (Katanga region), according to testimonies collected by AFP.
He fireof as yet unknown origin, burst out of the establishment’s boarding school and then devastated the primary and secondary school buildings.

“To escape this fire”the students “they jumped off the roof of the building”standing “three meters” tall, said Prince Timothée, a witness speaking by phone from Lubumbashi, the country’s economic capital.

At least 97 students were hospitalizedamong them some thirty with fractured limbs in four local hospitals, a person in charge of the communication service of the provincial government of lualaba.
He added that no deaths were recorded.
