Tragedy in the US: At least 6 dead in multiple accident due to a sandstorm in Illinois | VIDEO

At least six people lost their lives and another 30 were injured this Monday in a crash between 40 and 60 vehicles due to a sandstorm in Illinois (USA).

The spokesman for the Illinois State Policecaptain ryan starricktold the media that between 40 and 60 “passenger vehicles” were involved in several crashes on Interstate 55.

Starrick added that at least 30 people have been taken to hospitals.

In a message on social networks, the state police explained that some of those affected are in critical condition. The injured are between 2 and 80 years old.

The body added that about 30 commercial vehicles were also involved. Among the affected vehicles there are two trucks that were set on fire during the multiple accident.

He Department of Transportation of Illinois said on his Twitter account that I-55, at the height of the counties of Sangamon and montgomeryin that state, was closed in both directions due to “numerous crashes caused by a sandstorm, which has greatly reduced visibility.”

The Illinois State Police said in a tweet that traffic on I-55 had been diverted onto a nearby highway and urged drivers to seek alternative routes.
