It is time that in the face of lethal threats, there are lethal responses, and that is what we are doing on the basis of Ecuadorian regulationsZapata said.

The head of the Interior portfolio affirmed that the six alleged criminals were killed by police officers “making use of his lethal weapon, in accordance with the regulations and the law in force in the country”.

Zapata, who days ago had praised the law “Naín-Retamal” of Chile, also called the law of “easy trigger”, he assured that the five events where the policemen ended the lives of the alleged criminals occurred in cases of robberies, armed robberies and actions of hitmen.

Specifically, he congratulated the work of an agent who on Wednesday in Guayaquil shot down two suspected criminals when they were fleeing after carrying out a robbery.

It is a message that will remain firm, it is the message of the response and the reaction of the Police. There is blood from our policemen that has been spilled, but we remain firm and stronger than ever. Security and tranquility have to return”, added Zapata.

This series of deadly actions by the Police comes after the Public and State Security Council (Cosepe), the main advisory body of the Government in the matter, recommend the use of lethal weapons to confront the “terrorism” under which the Executive has described various bloody actions of the organized crime.

For his part, the Commander General of the Police, Faust Salinasindicated that in all of 2022 there were only six events where police officers killed suspected criminals and that since the beginning of 2023 there have already been 30 without any police officer having been prosecuted before the Justice.

Salinas explained that this increase is due to the support that the agents now feel from the Prosecutor’s Office and the Justice that they will not be prosecuted for their actions.

This gives Ecuadorian police officers greater peace of mind to fulfill their duty.”, asserted Salinas when reiterating that “the Police procedure has been within its service, fulfilling a legal duty and making the proportional and legitimate use of force”.

The General Commander of the Police returned to regret the murder on Wednesday of two sergeants who were riddled with shots when they were driving in their vehicle, in an alleged revenge against the death of a criminal by the Police when trying to prevent an assault on a bank office.
