The elected president of Paraguayan, santiago penaaffirmed this Tuesday that once he assumes his mandate next August he will restore relations between his country and Venezuela without any conditions.

“Restore relations with Venezuela It is a decision that I announced even before the elections”, affirmed Peña in a press conference that he gave after the interview he had in Brasilia with the Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silvaon his first visit abroad since he was elected on April 30.

Pena added that Paraguayan He always had relations with Venezuela and that their reestablishment does not prevent him from having a critical position on possible human rights violations in the Caribbean country or on the lack of elections.

“In this sense, we do not set conditions to reestablish relations. We are going to do it and we want to be a voice in the integration process, we also want to be a voice for the people of Venezuela, as Paraguay has historically been, which has received Venezuelan opposition leaders who often sought in friendly countries the possibility of their claims being heard“, said.

Peña affirmed that he had already communicated his decision to the president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduroin a telephone conversation and that one of the objectives of his international policy will be to work for the integration process of the South American countries.
