The Colombian government reported on Monday that it suspended the bilateral ceasefire in four departments with the EMC after the murder last weekend of four indigenous minors who tried to escape after being forcibly recruited by the Front Carolina Ramirezbelonging to this group.

The organizations, which make up the Coordinator of the Colombian South East for Agrarian, Environmental and Social Processes (Coscopaas)rejected “any type of violence” but warned that “violent actions cannot be responses with decisions that bring more violence.”

“We are concerned about the escalation of the war because the most affected are the unarmed rural communities who have historically suffered cruelty and the systematic violation of human rights and the International human right in our territory”they indicated in a statement.

coscopaas was the organizer of macro event that this dissidence of the FARC held last April in the savannah of the Yariin the department of caquetawhere they announced their desire for peace and assured that there was already a date set for the start of talks with the Government.

Initially it was planned, as announced by the dissidence, that the peace negotiations would start on May 16, a date that was never confirmed by the Government and that was finally postponed without new date estimate.

Among the claims that the organization made after the suspension of the cease fire this Monday is the reproach for a “lack of political will and commitment of the state to install the monitoring mechanism and verification of the ceasefire” and they criticized that “You cannot agree to a ceasefire without first installing a monitoring and verification mechanism.”

They also lamented the expansion in the installation of the dialogue table and full participation of social organizations in it”.

Finally, they made a callurgentto the Government and the EMC for “seek coherent and objective peaceful dialogue and resume the national ceasefire and urgently install the monitoring mechanism and verification as a pledge of guarantee for a serious and responsible dialogue”.

The Government reported yesterday in a statement that “The bilateral cessation that was currently in place with this armed group in the departments of Meta, Caquetá, Guaviare and Putumayo is suspended and all offensive operations are reactivated”a measure that will take effect this Wednesday.

To that decision the EMCunder the command of Néstor Gregorio Vera Fernández, alias “ivan bite”, he responded to the Government that “the unilateral rupture will unleash the war and the deaths, wounded and prisoners will multiply, contrary to a policy of total peace”.
