France and EU will support Ukraine “in the long term”, Paris reminds China

France and the European Union are determined to support Ukraine “over time” and “on all fronts,” Paris confirmed on Tuesday to a Chinese envoy sent by Beijing to Europe to discuss a political settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

The French Foreign Ministry, through its director-general for political and security affairs, Frédéric Mondoloni, stressed Russia’s “full responsibility for starting and continuing the war” during a meeting with China’s special envoy Li Hui in charge of the Ukraine file, according to a press release from Paris.

According to this text, France, while welcoming the “resumption of dialogue between China and Ukraine”, recalled that Kiev “is exercising its right to self-defense”, and emphasized that it and the EU “are determined to support (Ukraine) in the long term in all areas.”

Li Hui, the former Chinese ambassador to Moscow, has been touring Europe for a week now to discuss a “political settlement” of the conflict in Ukraine.
