Plane suffers terrible turbulence and passengers describe the moments of terror they lived at 30,000 feet

The airline British Airways announced that one of its planes suffered one of “the worst turbulence” in its history. Flight BA12, en route from Singapore to London, England, was caught in a storm that caused serious injuries to the crew four hours after takeoff.

At over 30,000 feet, inclement weather struck the entire crew overnight on Friday, June 16. Panic seized the passengers and many came to believe that they “would not survive” in the midst of the turbulence, according to testimonies to the media the sun.

The aircraft had passed over the Andaman Sea and was over the Bay of Bengal after leaving Singapore when severe and sustained turbulence occurred. The airline has not experienced anything like it in the last five years ”the newspaper noted.

A flight attendant suffered a bruised hip and a crew member suffered a concussion after being thrown from the cockpit of the Boeing 777-300ER.

Passengers thought they were going to die

The report indicates that 8 crew members were injured. The captain had no choice but to return to Singapore after the strong gusts of wind that hit the ship.

Jade Crosland and his partner were flying on the Boeing 777-300ER with their two children when the plane was caught in the air current and the oxygen masks were released. She recounts that she held her daughter to her chest thinking that the plane would fall more than ‘a thousand feet’.

The seatbelt sign came on without any announcement because I was half awake so I thought I’d better get Harper out because when the sign is on you have to strap in your baby.”, shared Crosland, who was sitting with her baby rows ahead of her husband and 3-year-old son.

“When I stood up, the plane fell literally a thousand feet”she said, after preparing to put the belt on her baby. “Everyone flew through the air, everyone was screaming”he added.

Honestly, I thought we were going to die. I tied her to me squeezing her, hugging her, thinking that we are going to die and ‘this is it’”he confessed after the ordeal.

“The crew was very professional and very organized and really stuck together. They were amazing and very helpfulCrosland said of the onboard medical team in action.

After the return of the British Airways plane, around 3 am, an airline spokesperson praised the professionalism of its crew inside the aircraft:

“Safety is always our priority and we are taking care of our crew after one of our flights experienced a rare episode of severe turbulence (…) We have apologized to customers for their flight delay and provided them with accommodation in a hotel”said the representative.
