Former student opens fire at school and kills a student in Brazil

A Teen A 16-year-old died and another student was injured this Monday in an attack with a firearm perpetrated by a former student at a school in the south of Brazilthe authorities reported.

The incident occurred in an educational center in the metropolitan region of londrinaa city in the interior of the southern state of parana. The attacker was arrested.

“A ex student entered armed”, after showing up at the school to “request your school records”reported the government of parana it’s a statement.

Once inside, “He shot two people. A 16-year-old student died at the scene. and another student was shot and is hospitalized”continued the state government, which did not specify the age or state of health of the injured student.

The local press reported that the assailant is 21 years old.

“The professor who pinned that ex student I had gone through recent training and the police arrived at the school in just three minutes, which prevented an even greater tragedy.”said the governor of parana, Carlos Ratinho Juniorwho decreed three days of mourning.

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva received the news with “sadness and indignation”.

“Another young life stolen by hate and violence we cannot tolerate more within our schools and in our society”the president tweeted.

Attacks on schools recently increased in Brazil and the authorities attribute them in part to the “apology for violence” that circulates on the networks.

“The apology for violence is today in the palm of the hand of our youth, in the ‘smartphones’, in the ‘tablets‘, in the irresponsible proliferation of messages of violence and hate on the internet”affirmed this Monday the Minister of Justice of Brazil, Flavio Dinoduring an event in Rio de Janeiro.

In April, four children between the ages of 4 and 7 were murdered at a daycare center in Blumenauin St. Catarina (south), by a man who attacked them with an axe.

The murders shocked the country and the federal government announced regulatory measures of social networks to combat the growing threats against schools.

Also among the deadliest recent attacks is the 2019 murder of eight people at a secondary school in suzanooutside of sao paulo. Its authors, two former students, later committed suicide.

The worst attack recorded in Brazil occurred in 2011: 12 children died when a man opened fire at his old nursery school in Realengoa suburb in Rio de Janeiro, before taking his own life.
