These are the 13 opposition candidates who aspire to remove Maduro from power in Venezuela

Thirteen opposition politicians Venezuelans -four women and nine men- aspire to become the unitary candidate to face the chavismo in the 2024 presidentialbut only one will make it. It will be the one who wins the internships on October 22, for which they registered with the National Commission for Primaries, where a fourteenth person was also registered for the Un Nuevo Tiempo party, whose objective is to ensure a place in the process, although the Final name is yet to be decided.

Here is a brief presentation of the applicants:

1. Roberto Enriquez

Conciliation is the main offer of Enríquez, president of the Social Christian party copeiwho aspires to builda humanist, Christian and reformist government” in which he will fight the “gender ideology”, as he has said in interviews. He is a lawyer, is 54 years old and is a member of the opposition delegation for dialogue with the Government.

2. Tamara Adrian

At 69, she is the first transgender woman to win a seat in a Latin American Parliament and wants to become the first to govern a nation, with the promise of guaranteeing respect for human rights, inclusion and economic development. She is a lawyer specializing in commercial law, foreign investment and human rights. In addition, she is a teacher and speaks five languages.

3. Andres Velasquez

The opposition primaries represent the fourth attempt by this 69-year-old trade unionist to take over the Government, since he was a candidate for president three times, as well as state governor Bolivar (south) and deputy of the National Assembly (AN/Parliament). The also founder of the party The Cause R proposes the return of expropriated companies and the restitution of the social value of work.

4. Cesar Perez Vivas

The lawyer, at 66, is one of the most successful candidates in electoral processes. He was elected four times a legislature deputy, and a governor of the border state of tachira. Now, he aspires to come to power to, among other things, reduce the presidential term from six to five years and promote Federal state.

5. Luis Farias

Career veterinarian, is defined as a “genuine representative” from civil society and ran in the primaries independently. He has never held elected office and, with his foray into politics, he wants to “eradicate corruption” through the decentralization of the State.

6. Delsa Solorzano

The defense of human rights and the freedom of political prisoners are the objectives of this lawyer since her election as a deputy for the period 2015-2020. At 51 years old, the lawyer with studies in citizen security, proposes to build “a peaceful coexistence”, as highlighted on its website.

7. Gloria Pinho

The 57-year-old lawyer, specialist in constitutional law and former judge of appeals for Caracasin 2021 she was a candidate for mayor of the municipality chacao, staying in third place. In his social networks he instructs about laws and assures that only “in legitimate exercise of constitutional rights” alternability can be guaranteed.

8. Cesar Almeida

He is a 50-year-old businessman and farmer who wants to put his more than 20 years of management experience at the service of the country, and proposes a national planting plan, as well as strengthening the banking system. He is backed by the party Popular Political Unity 89 (UPP89).

9. Freddy Superlane

With the stamp of being the first opposition party to win the governorship of Chavismo Barinas -birthplace of the late president Hugo Chavez (1999-2013)-, superlanea 47-year-old teacher and systems engineer, introduces himself as “the candidate of all Venezuelans”. Teacher in management and educational leadership, he was a deputy (2015-2020) and is supported by the party Popular will.

10. Maria Corina Machado

Identified with the liberal center trend and internationally recognized as an anti-Chavista leader, Machado, 55, is an industrial engineer specializing in Finance. She has the backing of the party Sell ​​Venezuela and proposes ainclusive and liberal development model“, under the “free market premises”.

11. Andres Caleca

The 68-year-old economist has experience in public administration, as he was president of the National Electoral Council (CNE) and presided over the state Orinoco Ferrominera. His government plan focuses, according to information from his team, on fighting poverty, recovering the productive apparatus and the financial system.

12. Carlos Prosperi

At 45, he is the youngest of the candidates and has the backing of the party Democratic Action, the formation that has led the most leaders to the Presidency. His project focuses on the recovery of the local currency -the bolivar- and the promotion of an economic system focused on the fight against inflation.

13. Henrique Capriles

He is a lawyer -specialized in Economic Law and one of the best-known candidates- seeking, at 50, his third presidential candidacy, after having been governor for two periods, mayor and having held various functions in the Legislative, from deputy to vice president. Although he is disqualified from holding public office until 2032, he maintains his candidacy and proposes economic diversification through private investment in the oil sector.
