Lula da Silva on the disqualification of Jair Bolsonaro: “it does not interfere with the tranquility of the government”

The president of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silvasaid this Saturday that the ineligibility of the far-right ex-president Jair Bolsonaro “is a problem of justice”, which “does not interfere with the tranquility of the government.”

“He (Bolsonaro) knows what he did, if he was right he will be rewarded; if he made a mistake, he will be judged and punished according to the mistake he made, ”said the leftist president, asked about the disqualification of his political rival when leaving training for the women’s soccer team in Brasilia, according to publications in the local press.

“This is a problem of justice, which does not interfere with the tranquility of the government,” he added, referring to the issue for the first time, after visiting the Mané Garrincha stadium in the capital.

On Friday, the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) disqualified the former army captain for eight years for “abuse of political power”, leaving him out of the next presidential elections in 2026.

In the last elections of last year, Lula defeated Bolsonaro by a margin of 1.8%, who obtained 58 million votes, a number higher than when he was elected president.

The ultra-right leader assured that he received “a stab wound”, but that “he is not dead”.

As anticipated, Bolsonaro plans to file an appeal before the Federal Supreme Court.

The TSE condemnation was related to a meeting with ambassadors in July 2022, in which Bolsonaro attacked the voting system with “false” information.
