The UN condemns the disappearance of nine people in the last week in northeastern Colombia

the office of UN High Commissioner for the Human Rights in Colombia denounced this Wednesday the disappearance of nine people in the last week in the convulsed department of arauca (northeast), bordering on Venezuela.

“We condemn these disappearances and we demand that they release all people immediately”, indicated the institution through its social networks, where it explained that among the nine disappeared there are two women and four minors, including a child with autistic condition.

Between January and June 2023, the office of the UN has received information about 74 murders of civilians in a department where “many people” they feel “fear and anxiety and what they want is peace and respect for their rights.

In this context, the institution called for “non-state armed actors” to “respect the civilian population and those who do not participate in hostilities, in accordance with the obligations of the International human right and in response to the commitment to peace that they have chosen”.

The call is made after the kidnapping of Sergeant Ghislaine Ramírez and her two youngest children by the guerrillas of the National Liberation Army (THE N), one day before the start of the bilateral ceasefire agreed with the Government.

arauca It is one of the most troubled regions in the region, with a strong presence of the THE N and of dissidences of the FARC that maintain confrontations for the control of the territory.

HOSTILITIES WITH THE ARMY

Just a week ago last June 27the Army reported the death of six members of the THE N after an operation carried out by the military forces just a few hours after the commander of the THE N, Eliecer Herlinto Chamorroalias “antonio garcia”, will ensure that the extreme right and the Military Forces have a “plan” to boycott the Ceasefire bilateral negotiated with the government.

Defense Minister, Ivan Velasquezresponded assuring that it does not exist “a plan of the extreme right”but that the operation was “in line of duty of the military forces”.
