6.8 magnitude earthquake shakes the coast of El Salvador

A earthquake of 6.8 on the open Richter scale and with an epicenter in the waters of the coast was registered this Tuesday in The Saviorand also shook the cities of Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.

The tremor occurred at 6:22 p.m. local time (00:22 GTM) off the coast of the eastern department of usulutan66 kilometers south of the beach the hawthornaccording to information from the monitoring center of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN).

The data indicates that the earthquake had a focal depth of 51.48 kilometers and there is no tsunami threat to The Saviorheld the MARN.

The authorities do not report, for the moment, neither victims nor material damages. Users of social networks report that in some areas the electricity and the telephone network have been cut off.

The local press indicates that the alarms of the government entities were activated and that the employees had to evacuate.

The earthquake was also felt in the cities of Guatemala, Tegucigalpa and Managuaaccording to information from MARN.

Most of the earthquakes that occur in El Salvador usually have their origin in the waters of the Pacific Ocean and at much greater depth.

The last time El Salvador was devastated by telluric movements was in 2001, when two earthquakes measuring 7.7 and 6.6 occurred.
