Ecuador: Presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio denounces threats against him

The presidential candidate Ecuadorian Fernando Villavicencio On Tuesday, he denounced threats against him and his campaign team, allegedly coming from the leader of a criminal gang linked to drug trafficking, who is in custody.

In a statement, their alliance Build-Good People (made up of centrist parties) reported through that same social network that “This is the second threat received in less than 48 hours by the candidate’s campaign team”.

The most recent intimidation message came via WhatsApp to the phone of a security coordinator for the candidate, a journalist who was a member of the National Assembly dissolved by the president William Lasso in May using a constitutional power, which gave way to early general elections to complete the current four-year period (until May 2025).
