Poland denounces the interference of two Belarusian helicopters over its airspace

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland announced this Tuesday that it summoned the charge d’affaires of the Embassy of belarus after two Belarusian military helicopters entered its airspace on Tuesday.

“He Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland expressed a strong protest and urged belarus to explain in detail and immediately the incident”, says the institution in a brief statement.

“The Polish side stressed that the incident is perceived as another element in the escalation of tension on the Polish-Belarusian border.”, added the ministry, which expressed the expectation that Belarus will stop this type of activity.

Shortly before, the Polish Defense Minister, Mariusz Blaszczakcalled a meeting of the Homeland Security Commission in order to clarify the current situation at the border.

“The intrusion took place in the area of bialowieza at a very low altitude, which made detection difficult through radar systems”, affirmed the ministry, thus explaining a denial of the intrusion that had occurred previously.

Blaszczak informed the NATO about the incident and, in response, ordered an increase in the number of soldiers and resources allocated to the protection of the border with Belarus.

According to the Polish Ministry of Defense, the Belarusian helicopters were participating in military training maneuvers about which minsk had informed warsaw previously.

“Due to the possibility of further provocations, we call for the responsible dissemination of information and comments that may be exploited by the Russian and Belarusian regimes.”, concludes the Defense statement.

The Polish government has expressed its concern over a possible escalation of tensions in the border area in recent weeks, since the installation of a contingent of Russian mercenaries from the wagner group in neighboring Belarus.
