Mexico: They find five bodies with signs of torture inside a van in Guanajuato

Authorities mexican They found this Tuesday a van with five bodies in the municipality of santiago valleyin Guanajuatoa state in the center of the country that is facing a wave of violence due to organized crime.

The municipal authorities received the report about a van jeep liberty red color overturned on a water channel located near the road that connects to santiago valley with the municipality of Jaral del Progreso.

When responding to the report, authorities found five bodies inside the vehicle, four women and one man. All showed signs of torture and bullet wounds.

Members of the Armyof the National Guard and of the State Attorney General’s Office protected the area, which is part of the region known as Laja – Bajiothe most violent of the entity.

The authorities did not share information about the motive for the crime or the suspects.

Since 2018, the state of Guanajuato is the one that concentrates the greatest number of intentional homicides in Mexico.

In the first semester of 2023, 1,674 people were murdered in the entity, a figure that represents 11% of the total number of victims reported in the country, according to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System.

The violent wave in Guanajuato occurs despite the fact that the number of intentional homicides in Mexico decreased by 1.68% year-on-year in the first half of 2023 to 15,122 murders, an average of 83 per day.
