In said press conference, the deputy director of the Police of Thailand, Surachate Hakparnknown by the nickname of “Big Joke”, announced the closure of the investigation of the crime perpetrated on August 2 in Koh Phangan and said that they will request the death penalty for the defendant.

González explained that the family, despite knowing that in thailand a heinous crime like the murder and dismemberment of Arrieta can be punished with the death penalty or life imprisonment, “does not wish to rule on what should be the penalty that should be imposed (on Daniel Sancho), if one or the other”.

According to the lawyer, the family, after hearing Hakparn’s press conference, “receive this news well because justice is beginning to be done”.

What we want is for there to be a conviction that is the one that the Thai judges, after verifying and corroborating the information provided, determine“, he pointed.

The number two of the Thai Police said yesterday that they have “consulted the prosecutor about some of the evidence and it is strong enough to charge him with premeditated murder, which carries the death penalty”.

daniel sancho29, who confessed to having murdered Arrieta, a 44-year-old doctor specializing in plastic surgery, is the son of renowned Spanish actor Rodolfo Sancho and grandson of the actor Sancho Gracealready deceased.

premeditated murder

Lawyer González assured that with the officer’s press conference, “The reality today is that the elements suggest that there was premeditation, in addition to the chronology of the events as narrated by the Thai police”.

At first, they tried to divert attention by indicating that there were two people, that it had been due to their relationship (Arrieta and Sancho), that this had not been premeditated but rather an accident that had arisen at the time, but today all the elements solidly point to a single direction and that is that there was a whole premeditation”, he stated.

According to the lawyer, in Thailand “an analysis of circumstance, time, mode and place was made, it is perceived how a number of knives were bought that in the end were used for the heinous act and that clearly denotes this planning, this preparation for the subsequent commission of the crime”.

González believes that Sancho planned everything to take Arrieta to Thailand where the doctor “I would never think of distrusting” of his friend.

The Arrieta family lawyer added that as “the gruesome act occurred in Thailand under Thai law”, trust the integrity of the authorities and their respect for Justice.

We believe that the Thai State will be the guarantor of both rights, because Sancho will have the right to defend himself in the process if he considers it so and we as victims also have the right to be heard in the process.”, he expressed.

repatriation of remains

The lawyer asserted that “the The family hopes that Edwin’s remains will be repatriated as soon as possible, after all the requirements of justice are completed so that his parents can give him a Christian burial.” in Lorica, his hometown, in the Caribbean department of Cordova.

González explained that they are waiting for the Colombian authorities, who are providing support to the family in Thailand, to deliver a report on Arrieta’s remains, since they are still “it is not known exactly what parts of Edwin’s body have been found”.

Regarding defamations that have circulated about the family of the Colombian surgeon having relations with the mafia, the lawyer was blunt: “We expected that to happen because what they normally do is try to discredit the victim in order to justify the perpetrator”.
