Bolivia: At least 20 dead and 38 injured in a bus traffic accident

At least 20 people died and some 38 were injured in a traffic accident involving a bus in bolivianinformed this Thursday the departmental commander of the Police of CochabambaJorge Rios.

The incident occurred the day before in the area known as localat kilometer 80 of the highway that connects the central department of Cochabamba with the eastern of Santa Cruz.

Ríos explained that the task of rescuing the bodies and caring for the 38 injured was extended until this morning and that the work of “full identificationof the victims.

Preliminarily, we see that (the cause) has been the exit of the motorized road and as a consequence (there was) the encunetamiento” or lateral overturning of the vehicle on an unevenness of the platform, said Ríos.

The Police reported that 11 of the deceased are men and 9 women, while among the injured are from the elderly to a 4-month-old baby.

Ríos reported that a blood sample was taken from the driver to determine if he consumed alcohol and that the statements of the survivors are collected to have a version about the event.

The commander specified that several of the passengers were members of a folkloric fraternity.
