Arévalo de León was elected this Sunday as the new president of Guatemala after beating the former first lady in the second electoral round Sandra Torres Casanova.

Counted 90% of the votes, arevalo de leon adds a total of 2.2 million ballots in his favor, which represents 59% of the total, while Casanova Towers it counts 1.3 million votes received (35%).

The arrival of arevalo de leon to the Presidency, however, could have obstacles facing the investiture on January 14, for a period of four years.

This is because the Public Ministry (Prosecutor’s Office)whose leadership is sanctioned by the United States, began several attempts since July 12 to suspend the Seed Movement due to an alleged case of false signatures in the party during its creation in 2018.

The situation caused in the first days of this month the visit of the general secretary of the Organization of American States (OAS)Luis Almagro, to verify the electoral panorama and meet various sectors, including the Prosecutor’s Office.

Despite this, the Public Ministry affirmed two days ago that it does not rule out issuing arrest warrants as of Monday against the top leaders of Semilla, including arevalo de leon.

According to various political analysts consulted in recent weeks, the presidential transition could run risks and that was precisely one of the issues addressed by Almagro during his visit to Guatemalawhere giammattei He promised that a change of government would take place without any problems.
