President of Panama congratulates Arévalo and offers to continue cooperation with Guatemala

The president of Panama, Laurentino Cortizowished this Monday success in his management to the elected ruler of Guatemala, Bernardo Arevalo of Lionand offered to continue bilateral cooperation.

The Panamanian president added that his Administrationwhich will end on June 30, will continue “strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation” with the new government Guatemala, “for the development of our nations and the region”.

Arévalo de León, from the party Seed Movementconsidered progressive and of the moderate left, obtained 2.4 million votes or 59% in the elections on Sunday, the highest figure in the history of Guatemalain a second round that had 55% abstention.

The president-elect, who will take office next January for the 2024-2028 period, said that he accepts this victory “with great humility”, which he obtained with the promise of fighting corruption in the Central American country and the intention of emulating the presidency of his father, Juan Jose Arevalo Bermejowho ruled the country between 1945-1951.
