Petro criticizes Milei for comments about socialists: “Hitler said the same thing”

The Colombian President, Gustavo Petroattacked this Tuesday against the Argentine far-right presidential candidate javier milei for his derogatory comments about socialists, and I assure you that “Hitler said that”.

In a brief message posted on his X account (formerly Twitter), Petro quoted a news item containing Milei’s words “What is a socialist, deep down? He is a piece of garbage, a human excrement ”.

“Hitler said the same thing” Petro indicated in this regard, in the first message in reference to the triumph of the leader of the formation La Libertad Avanza, who came out in a surprising first place in the primaries on August 13.

In an interview with the RCN station on Monday night, Milei said: “Argentina’s decline begins with embracing socialist ideas, that is, the true Argentine disease is called socialism. To the extent that a country embraces these ideas, the only thing that will happen to it is to be increasingly poorer”.

Milei has raised controversy in recent days with his proposals, branded as populist, including attacking the political “caste”, adjusting the State, dollarizing the country and eliminating the Central Bank.

Since coming to power, Petro has maintained a close relationship with the current Argentine president, Alberto Fernandezwith whom he has met on several occasions.

In fact, Buenos Aires was one of the first international trips the president made after taking office on August 7, 2022.

Although the Colombian head of state had not ruled on Milei and the result of the Argentine primaries, the far-right’s proposals suggest that, in the event of achieving the Presidency, this relationship would cool down.

La Libertad Avanza won in the primaries with 30.04% of the votes, above the opposition coalition Together for Change (28.27%), whose internal party was won by former Security Minister Patricia Bullrich, and the pro-government coalition Unión por la Homeland (Peronist), which leads the current Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa (27.27%).

The serious economic situation, with more than 113% year-on-year inflation, a strong exchange rate gap and 40% of the population living in poverty, and the uncertain political panorama, after Milei’s triumph in the primaries and without a clear panorama with In view of the presidential elections on October 22, they have turned Argentina into a perfect breeding ground for social unrest.
