kyiv says a Russian drone crashed on Romanian territory, while Bucharest denies it

The Romanian Ministry of Defense has formally denied “categorical” in a statement that the Russian attack reached its territory. “At no time did the means used by the Russian Federation have generated direct military threats to the national territory or territorial waters of Romaniasays the Romanian note.

Shortly before, the Ukrainian Foreign Affairs spokesman, Oleg Nikolenkohad posted the following statement on Facebook.

“According to information from the Ukrainian Border Service, during the massive attack by Russia in the port area izmail (drones) shahed Russians fell and detonated tonight in Romanian territory“, said Nikolenko in reference to the kamikaze drone of Iranian design that Russia uses to attack Ukraine.

Nikolenko added that these facts would be “another confirmation that Russian terrorism” supposes “a serious threat not only to the safety of Ukrainebut for the security of neighboring countries, including those of the NATO”.

Romania and Poland -both neighboring countries of Ukraine and members of the NATO– They have already denied on other occasions that Russian missiles fell on their territory as denounced kyiv.

A Russian attack against the territory of a country of the NATO could force the alliance to consider activating its Article 5, whereby member countries undertake to consider any action against another member country as an attack against their territory.
