Pope Francis expresses his pain and solidarity for the earthquake in Morocco

He Pope Francisco expressed his pain and solidarity with the earthquake that shook today violently Morocco and whose toll amounts to 820 dead and 672 injured, including 250 seriously, and serious damage.

The Pope guarantees “your prayers in the face of this natural disaster” and it shows “saddened by this event” and expresses his “deep solidarity with those who are touched in the flesh and in the heart by this tragedy: pray for the repose of the deceased, for the healing of the wounded and for the consolation of those who mourn the loss of their loved ones and their homes” , reads the telegram sent to the local Church.

In the message sent on behalf of the pontiff by the secretary of state, cardinal Pietro ParolinFrancisco “Ask the Soaring “to support the Moroccans in this ordeal and offer their encouragement to the civil authorities and the rescue services.”

According to the latest data released this Saturday by the Moroccan Ministry of the Interior, the province with the most registered deaths is Al Haouz-south of marrakesh and close to the epicenter -, with 394 deaths, followed by Taroudant (271 fatalities), Chichaoua (91 deaths), ouarzazate (31), marrakesh (13), Azilal (eleven), Agadir (5), White House (3) and Al Youssufia (1).

According to a seismic alert bulletin released by the Moroccan National Institute of Geophysics, the earthquake, of magnitude 7, shook the Moroccan northern region of Marrakesh and it occurred at 11:11 p.m. local time (22:11 GMT on Saturday) at a depth of 8 kilometers.

It had its epicenter in the town of Ighillocated about 80 kilometers southwest of the city of marrakesh.
