Government of Cuba remembers Allende’s heroic resistance 50 years after the military coup in Chile

Cuba remembered this Monday the “heroic resistance” in “defense of independence and democracy” of the Chilean president Salvador Allende (1970-1973), on the 50th anniversary of the military coup of Augusto Pinochet.

In that same social network, the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguezpointed out that “50 years after the coup d’état in Chileinstigated and orchestrated by the US, we remember the heroic resistance of the president Salvador Allende and his companions in defense of independence and democracy against the fascist attack against the Palacio de La Moneda.”

Chili will commemorate this Monday the 50th anniversary of the coup against the democratic Government of Allende in an event at the La Moneda Palace in which several world leaders will attend, such as the Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obradorthe Colombian Gustavo Petrothe Argentinian Alberto Fernandez and the Uruguayan Luis Lacalle Pou. The Cuban president will not attend the event.

The celebration has divided the South American country. In recent months, denialism has grown and the number of people, public and private, who justify the coup and who believe that it saved Chili of communism and that the brutal reprisals of the dictatorship were a necessary evil.
