Tragedy in Venice: at least 21 dead and more than a dozen injured in bus accident in Italy | VIDEO

There are 21 dead, 12 injured and at least 4 missing victims of the bus accident that occurred in Teacher (northeast of Italy), after the burning vehicle fell from a highway ramp, local authorities reported today.

Among the victims of the bus accident, which was a regular route, are minors and citizens of different nationalities, said the president of the region of Veneto, Lucas Zaia.

The Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloniexpressed his “Our deepest condolences, personally and from the entire Government, for the serious accident that occurred in Mestre. I think of the victims and their family and friends. I am in close contact with the mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaroand with the Minister (of the Interior) Matteo Piantedosito follow the news about this tragedy”.

The accident occurred shortly after 7:30 pm local time (5:30 pm GMT), when the bus plunged onto the footbridge crossing the highway and landed between a warehouse and the train tracks.

Previously, on Twitter, Brugnaro revealed that he had decreed “mourning, in memory of the countless victims who were on the overturned bus. An apocalyptic scene, there are no words”.

O USL 3 of Venice launched the protocol of «major emergencies», which provides for the availability of all hospital emergency services and the call for additional staff to work.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Matteo Salviniand other members of the Government offered their condolences as they followed the evolution of the accident, while all political parties also expressed their regret over the tragedy.
