Israel-Hamas war: German-Israeli Shani Luk, taken hostage during rave party, is dead

Her mother, Ricarda Luk, recognized her from videos circulating on the Internet. Shani, 23, lay half-naked in the back seat of a pickup truck, apparently unconscious, face down. There are armed men around her, one of whom is pulling her hair, and the other is spitting on her bloody head. On October 7 this year, a young woman was kidnapped by Hamas during a rave party in southern Israel.

German-Israeli Shani Luk has died, her mother told German media NTV on Monday. “Unfortunately, yesterday we learned that my daughter is no longer alive,” she said. At the same time, his sister Adi Luk confirmed this news through story in Hebrew on his Instagram account.

Shani Luk’s death was also confirmed by Israel on X (formerly Twitter). “We regret to announce that the death of Shani Luk, a 23-year-old German-Israeli woman, has been confirmed. Shani, who was kidnapped at a music festival, tortured and paraded around the Gaza Strip by Hamas terrorists, suffered unfathomable horrors,” the Jewish State wrote. “Our hearts are broken. May his memory be a blessing. »

According to her mother, Ricarda Luk, the girl’s body has not been found. Only a fragment of his skull bone was found, from which a DNA sample was taken. According to her, Shani Luk died during the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7 from a bullet in the head.

“His skull has been found,” Israeli President Isaac Herzog told German daily Bild. “This means that these barbaric and sadistic animals simply cut off his head while attacking, torturing and killing Israelis. This is a great tragedy and I express my sincere condolences to his family,” he added.

Identified by her mother

Shani Luk participated in organizing a rave party in the Negev desert, near the border with the Gaza Strip, recalls Bild. A German woman who has lived in Israel for three decades, Ricarda Luk, made an appeal for help in finding her daughter the day after the attack, recognizing her from videos circulating online because of her distinctive tattoos and hairstyle.

“We call on the German government to act quickly (…) We must act quickly to get Shani out of the Gaza Strip. This is my desperate appeal to the entire country, Germany, to help me bring my Shani back healthy. Every minute counts,” Ricarda Luk insists in her video.

According to Israel, Shani Look was one of about 230 people taken hostage by Hamas during the attack. “We are ready to immediately make an exchange to release all those imprisoned by the Zionist enemy in exchange for all hostages in the hands of the resistance,” Hamas leader Yahya Sinouar said in a statement released this week on SATURDAY.

Among them are several French citizens, the exact number of whom was not confirmed by the Foreign Ministry.

According to Berlin, there are several Germans (less than ten) among those killed by Hamas. And a “small double-digit number” of German hostages are being held since the Oct. 7 attacks, which Israeli authorities say killed more than 1,400 people, mostly civilians.
