Both start with “Sw” and have a cross on their flag, so it’s easy to understand why some people confuse Sweden and Switzerland.

It is estimated that around 120,000 people a year confuse the two countries – even Joe Biden is guilty of that.

And it seems Sweden has had enough of the misunderstanding.

The country’s tourism authority has launched a new campaign video to finally differentiate between the two nations.

In the satirical clip, a Swedish ‘official’ appears to address Switzerland to discuss their ‘mutual problem’, citing the US president’s NATO mistake as a key reference point.

“People around the world continue to confuse Sweden and Switzerland.” To put an end to this confusion, we are now contacting the Swiss authorities,” says the “Visit Sweden” campaign.

The fake Swedish official then explains the ‘differences’ between the two countries and what each country can talk about.

Switzerland gets banks, while Sweden gets sandbanks.

“Switzerland can focus on mountain peaks, while Sweden can focus on rooftops,” the representative explains.

LSD goes to Switzerland (after the drug was invented by a Swiss chemist), while “an experience of a different kind” – also known as the Northern Lights – goes to Sweden.

Elsewhere, in Switzerland, there is yodelling, while in Sweden there is a serene silence.

Switzerland also gets luxury watches, while Sweden gets “a different kind of luxury: forgetting about time.”

To summarize the efforts, the Swedish proposal reads as follows: “As long as both tourism organizations adhere to this dividing line in all communications with the outside world, the confusion should end.”

So that’s it. There will be no more confusing rolling hills for mountain peaks or meatballs for chocolate.
