Summary. The war between Israel and Hamas broke out more than three weeks ago, but this weekend the conflict moved into another dimension. The Israeli army’s bombing in the Gaza Strip has intensified, and the ground offensive is gaining momentum every day. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu even spoke this Saturday about a “second stage” of the conflict and said he expected a “long and difficult” war.
Even if this offensive is directed against Hamas leaders, it will come at the expense of the lives of many civilians. According to Hamas, 8,000 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the start of the war. The humanitarian situation is also a concern for the international community, as supplies of water, electricity and food were cut off for several days in the territory of 2.4 million people.
For the Code source, Henri Vernet, political journalist for Le Parisien, and Laura-Mai Gaverio, journalist special correspondent for the region, recount the first weeks of the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
