Who is Tomás Zerón, the Mexican most wanted by the AMLO Government

The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has been asking Israel for months to extradite Tomás Zerón, who was the director of the now-defunct Criminal Investigation Agency.

Why? Last year, Zerón ran away because he was accused of “torture, forced disappearance, concealment and loss of evidence”In the Ayotzinapa Case.

The Ayotzinapa case?

On September 26, 2014, a group of students from the Raúl Isidro Burgos Rural Normal School, from Ayotzinapa, traveled to Equal to, in the state of Guerrero. His goal: to get buses to travel and be part of the commemoration of the Tlatelolco Massacre of 1968.

It was, however, a common practice in the place, a kind of tacit agreement between the authorities and the population, according to the Miguel Agustín Pro Juárez Human Rights Center.

But that night the situation got out of control: the police fired at them, and 43 were arrested. And then they disappeared.

That night, according to the NGO, “more than 180 people were direct victims of human rights violations”.

The institution explains:

The balance of the bloody night in Iguala was brutal: 43 young students who are still missing; 6 people executed, including 3 normalistas, including the case of a young man whose body appeared the next day in an uninhabited area with clear signs of torture; at least 40 people were injured, counting two students who suffered serious and permanent health effects”.

A BAD RESEARCH

Tomás Zerón was appointed as the person responsible for clarifying the events that occurred in Ayotzinapa. As head of the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Attorney General’s Office, he undertook the investigation.

And with it, his mismanagement.

According to the BBC, they worked on the theory that the policemen who murdered the students were “at the service of the United Warriors cartel”.

Infobae maintains that this was the version (that the students were delivered “to organized crime, who murdered them and incinerated their bodies“) Shared by the government of Enrique Peña Nieto, Mexican president at the time, and which was called”historical truth”.

It was known that it was a lie when, months later, it was “identified the first student through a bone”. And in a new setback, later, “the current prosecutor’s office confirmed that the finding was ‘a setup’ “.

Perhaps for this reason, Zerón would have taken “certain licenses”.

“Millennium” collected his steps:

During the interrogation and torture of the detained FRS, alias El Cepillo, whom he presented as the leader of the group that murdered and incinerated the 43 Ayotzinapa students, Tomás Zerón […] used videos of the statements made two months earlier by other defendants to get the witness to match his testimony with those of other alleged members of Guerreros Unidos”.

In the videos, it says “Millennium”, you see the defendants “blindfolded and ears blindfolded, which constitutes ‘sensory deprivation’ or ‘white torture’ “.

And it was not the only irregularity.

The “BBC” adds:

Zerón had been left in an uncomfortable position after the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (GIEI) of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights […] assured […] that the official had been at the place where plastic bags with bone fragments were found a day before they were found, but there had been no official record of his visit”.

THE FLIGHT OF THE COUNTRY

When all this came to light, his removal from office was called for. He resigned and in June 2020, he left the country.

“El Heraldo” notes that, even in his escape, there are irregularities. The media tells that, since March of that year, there had been an arrest warrant. Zerón got an amparo and left.

The media notes:

According to the information obtained by the Interdisciplinary Group of Experts and Independent Experts (GIEI), Zerón was accused of having violated due process, after he altered the evidence in the case, in addition to planting bones in the San Juan River, located in Cocula, Guerrero”.

And add:

Due to these alterations, the PGR detained various officials inconsistently. On the other hand, it was also pointed out that during this process there were arbitrary detentions, torture, procedural violations and concealment of sufficient evidence on the case.”.
