War between Israel and Hamas: more than 100 French have left the Gaza Strip since the evacuation began

They left the hell of Gaza behind. In total, more than 100 French people have been able to leave Palestinian territory since the evacuation through Egypt began a week ago, the Quai d’Orsay reported on Tuesday.

“Two groups of French citizens, agents and copyright holders were able to leave” on Monday and Tuesday the area subject to incessant Israeli bombing and “are safe in Egypt, where they are being taken care of by the French Embassy and our Consulate General in Cairo.” as well as by the teams of the ministry’s crisis centers,” the French diplomacy said in a statement. “This brings the total number of excursions organized by France to more than 100 people,” reports Quai d’Orsay.

The Gaza Strip has been subject to Israeli airstrikes since October 7, when Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on Israel that authorities say killed 1,400 people, the vast majority of them civilians.

After a month of war between Israel and the Islamist movement that holds power in the Gaza Strip, more than 10,000 people, most of them civilians, have been killed in the Palestinian territory, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.

Hundreds of evacuations over the past week

Since last Wednesday, the evacuation of wounded Gazans, foreigners or dual citizens through the Rafah crossing in the south of the Palestinian enclave, on the border with Egypt, has been organized. This is the only border post in the territory not guarded by the Israeli army.

A three-day evacuation has already taken place between last Wednesday and Friday, resulting in the release of dozens of wounded Palestinians and hundreds of foreign passport holders. After a two-day closure, flights to Rafah resumed on Monday.

Hundreds of people holding foreign passports were awaiting evacuation to Egypt in Rafah on Tuesday, an AFP journalist noted.

“Yesterday on Monday, 96 trucks with humanitarian aid arrived,” “19 wounded and one sick, as well as about 200 people of foreign citizenship also left,” said a representative of the checkpoint. He mentioned a list of 500 people allowed to enter Egypt on Tuesday.

“We will continue our efforts in the coming days so that all our compatriots, our agents, as well as their families who wish to do so, can leave Gaza,” the Quai d’Orsay added, recalling the “diplomatic efforts of France” and thanking “the Egyptian authorities for all their help” in this evacuation.

In parallel with these evacuations to Egypt, humanitarian aid was sent to Palestinian territory for several days, going in the opposite direction. “France supports Egypt in increasing humanitarian aid sent to the people of Gaza.”
