Minnesota court rejects attempt to exclude Trump from Republican primaries

O Minnesota Supreme Court rejected on Wednesday an attempt aimed at preventing donald trump appeared on the Republican primary card for the 2024 presidential election in that northern state U.S.

“No state law prohibits for an important political party to include on the voter’s voting card primaries for presidential nomination (…) for an ineligible candidate”, wrote the president of the court in her decision Natalie Hudsonby refusing the request for Delete for trump of scrutiny.

The applicants invoked Article 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution which prohibits any person from holding public office if they have participated in “insurrection or rebellion” after having committed to defending the Constitution.

The relevance of this legal instrument, which the applicants intended to use to consider that donald trump would have violated his oath by attacking the Capitol on January 6, 2021, generates controversy among experts.

In addition to this case in Minnesotain other states are taking more legal action to prevent the former president from participating in the race for The White House.

Despite the decision, the Minnesota Supreme Court informed that it could examine the allegation regarding for the presidential election at a later date, if trump will win the republican investiture and if another request is presented.

The Republican tycoon must appear for March 2024 before the justice federal in washington for his alleged attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
