Putin says peace will come when Russia achieves its goals in Ukraine

The President of Russia, Vladimir Putinstated this Friday that peace in Ukraine will come when Russia “achieves its objectives”, which have not changed since the start of the military campaign in February 2022.

“Peace will come when Russia achieves its goals” said the Kremlin chief at his year-end press conference.

According to the Russian leader, the objectives declared by Moscow before the start of the war “have not changed”.

He specified that it involves the “demilitarization”, the “denazification” of Ukraine and guarantees of its “neutral status”.

Putin assured that today Ukraine produces almost no weapons.

Today Ukraine produces almost nothing. (…) They bring everything from outside, for free. But this bargain may end one day. And apparently it’s ending.”he added.

Regarding rumors about a new wave of mobilization in Russia to continue the fighting in the neighboring country, Putin assured that at this moment “there is no such need”.

He recalled that after the partial mobilization in September 2022, when around 300,000 fighters were recruited, Russia launched a campaign to attract contract soldiers and expanded its ranks with almost another 500,000 people.

“Why a mobilization then? Today there is no such need.”guaranteed the president, who added that every day in each country 1,500 volunteers sign up to fight.

This year, the Kremlin decided to combine the press conference with the question-and-answer session with citizens, which used to be held in the first and second semesters of each year, respectively.

It is Putin’s first major press conference since the start of the war, which this year the Kremlin arranged with the president’s hotline, in which Putin answers questions from his fellow citizens.

In June 2021, the last interventions of this type took place by the Russian leader, who turned 71 in October.
