USS Mason (DDG 87) shot down a drone and an anti-ship ballistic missile in the southern Red Sea fired by the Houthis. None of the 18 ships in the area were damaged or wounded. Oldest hostage declared dead

Jewish-American Judith Weinstein Haggei, 70, described as the oldest woman held hostage in the Gaza Strip, was pronounced dead Thursday at her kibbutz Nir Oz, located on the outskirts of the territory.

This mother of four, grandmother of seven grandchildren and English teacher for children with special educational needs, according to her kibbutz, grew up in Toronto and also had Canadian citizenship.

Earlier this week, her kibbutz announced the death of her husband Gadi Haggai, 73, who was also a hostage in the Gaza Strip, where remains are believed to still be located.

Two wounded Palestinian children received assistance in France

France welcomed on Thursday two wounded Palestinian children who were being treated at a pediatric hospital, according to a press release from the French Foreign Ministry. Paris is planning “a new operation to receive wounded or seriously ill Palestinian children from next week”, reports Quai d’Orsay, “in accordance with the commitments of the President of the Republic” Emmanuel Macron.

Discussions in Cairo

A Hamas delegation is expected to arrive in Cairo this Friday to discuss Egypt’s three-phase plan, which calls for a renewable truce, a phased release of Palestinian hostages and prisoners and, ultimately, a ceasefire ending the fighting.

The Hamas delegation will convey to the Egyptians “the response of the Palestinian factions, which includes several comments on their plan,” a spokesman for the Islamist movement, who wished to remain anonymous, told AFP.
