Colombia: Councilor who suffered attack hours before taking office dies

Eliecid Ávila Ávilacouncilor of the Colombian municipality of Tulúa (southwest), died in the early hours of Tuesday after suffering an attack the day before, a few hours before taking up a seat in the local authority for the third time, authorities reported.

The killer, according to the police officer, is apparently “a minor person who unfortunately was instrumentalized by the crime in Tulúa”.

The attack occurred in that municipality that is part of the department of Cauca Valley when Ávila was celebrating the New Year with his family in front of his brother’s house.
