UN experts: the execution of Hamas’ “number two” in Lebanon violated humanitarian law

Israel’s alleged extraterritorial use of lethal drones to execute “number” two of the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas and six other people in an explosion recorded last week in Lebanon is not protected by International Humanitarian Law, two experts from the UN.

Both experts recalled that these homicides could constitute “extrajudicial executions”, given that Israel did not provide any legal justification for the attack nor communicated it to the Security advice, as required by article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations.

Furthermore, they recalled that Israel did not exercise self-defense because he did not present evidence that the victims were committing an armed attack against Israel from Lebanese territory.

They also condemned the words of the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahuand other senior officials of the Israelwho threatened to kill Hamas leaders anywhere in the world.

“There is no legal basis for geographically unlimited attacks against members of a set armed wherever they are”they remembered.

In the statement, experts warned that the Israeli attack constituted a “dangerous”regional escalation of conflict Linka violation of the sovereignty of the Lebanon and a use “prohibited”of military force against Lebanese territory, according to humanitarian principles from the UN.
