Trump wins New Hampshire Republican primary, ‘our democracy is at stake,’ Biden reacts

US right-wing frontrunner Donald Trump won the New Hampshire Republican primary on Tuesday night against rival Nikki Haley, clearing the way for the former president to secure the Republican nomination in November’s presidential election against Joe Biden.

According to US television forecasts, the main favorite in the Republican primaries and the former US president won the vote in New Hampshire, ahead of his former UN ambassador, 52-year-old Nikki Haley. Congratulating Trump on his victory in the small northeastern state, where she has a number of supporters, Nikki Haley confirmed that “the race (was) far from over.” And on November 5, she warned Republicans that “Trump’s inauguration will be Biden’s victory.”

Democratic President Joe Biden, for his part, warned Tuesday night that democracy is “at risk” after his Republican rival Donald Trump won the right-leaning primary in New Hampshire. “It is now clear that Donald Trump will be the Republican nominee. And I want to tell the country that the stakes couldn’t be higher. Our democracy. Our individual freedoms (…). Our economy (…). Everything is at stake,” he wrote in his statement.

“They’ll all vote for me again”

After his November 2020 defeat, in which he never admitted to President Biden, and although he faces four criminal trials this year, Donald Trump is determined to get revenge on his Democratic rival in November. “They will all vote for me again (…). Biden is the worst president in the history of this country,” Trump said outside a New Hampshire polling station where both Republican and Democratic primaries were being held.

To face the outgoing president on November 5, Donald Trump will need to win support at his party’s convention this summer, at the end of all US state primaries against his rival Nikki Haley.

There was “very strong participation” in the New Hampshire primary, where the last polls closed at 8:00 pm (1:00 GMT Wednesday), local officials said. During his final campaign appearance on Monday night, Donald Trump once again attacked Nikki Haley, “the candidate who is losing and who will put America last.” “If you want a president who puts America first every time, then vote for Donald Trump,” he said.

The tycoon had already won the first primary in Iowa on January 15.

VIDEO. “Even if you go to vote and die, it will be worth it,” Trump says at the start of the US Republican primaries.

Nikki Haley, the former Republican governor of South Carolina, is rejecting pressure to resign. “This has always been a marathon, not a sprint,” she assured earlier on Tuesday.

Donald Trump’s rallying this weekend against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, once seen as his main Republican rival, has brought the top three back to the duel.
