“Queens”: Peruvian film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in the United States

The movie Peruvian “Reinas”, by director Klaudia Reynicke, premiered on January 22 at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, which takes place in the United States.

Thus, the film product, which brings together national actors Gonzalo Molina, Jimena Lindo, Abril Gjurinovic, Luana Vega, Susi Sánchez and was recorded in Lima, was screened at the event.

Although the release date in Peru is not yet known, the director of Peruvian-Swiss descent revealed to El Comercio the excitement generated by the making of her film after learning of its nomination.

The story of “Queens” explores the drama of migration and starting over abroad due to the lack of opportunities in the country of origin.

For this reason, Reynicke’s audiovisual story tells the story of a family that was separated by the absence of the father, who will try to reconnect with his daughters, but who is surprised when he finds out that his ex-partner is trying to migrate to another country. country along with the minors.

In this way, Klaudia specified that it is not an autobiographical fiction, but that she did have moments of inspiration in her personal life when writing the story.

“I wanted to tell the story of a family that comes together before breaking up, of girls who learn to know a father knowing that they are going to leave, and a father who learns the feeling of responsibility that comes with being a father. From a mother who has a dream, but sometimes dreams have consequences.”said.

Then he added: “I also wanted to reconnect with Peru. I left the country when I was 10 years old, I returned to visit the family, but it was not enough and “Reinas” was a way to be able to return, connect with the country… in an intense, emotional but also very concrete way.”

It should be noted that the release date in theaters in Peru is not yet known. Currently, Reynicke’s film continues to be screened at the Sundance Festival.
