At least 39 dead in fire in central China

At least 39 people died this Wednesday due to a fire that broke out in a store in Jiangxi province, in the center of Chinaindicated a state media outlet.

Public television CCTV noted that the fire started “in the basement of a store in Xinyu” at 15:24 (07:24 GMT).

“To date, the accident has resulted in the death of 39 people and nine injuries”CCTV indicated shortly after 8pm local time (12pm GMT), specifying that there is still “people arrested” at the scene of the incident.

The chain has not yet specified the cause of the fire nor how many people are still in danger.

The images broadcast by this channel show several fire trucks and other vehicles of emergency services parked on a street in front of a row of businesses.
